Tom “durrr” Dwan

Known to the online poker world by the screen name of “durrr,” Tom Dwan is one of the most recognizable professional poker players on the Internet today. Unlike poker players such as Doyle Brunson, Dwan did not grow up playing and mastering the game of poker. Tom Dwan was a late starter, but his opposition would never know the he took up playing poker after he had started college. In fact, “durrr” demonstrated he was a quick learner and he moved up in stakes rather quickly and he plays in the biggest cash games on the Internet today.

In 2009, Tom Dwan issued the “durrr” challenge to any poker player willing to take him up on the challenge. In this challenge, Dwan faces a single opponent across four online poker tables and they play fifty-thousand hands. Whoever is monetarily ahead upon completion of hand 50K is declared the winner. Dwan requires his opposition to put up $500K, while he risks $1.5 million. Naturally, a challenge of this nature cannot take place in one session. Thus, the “durrr” challenge is played throughout several sessions and when they play, the games draw quite a crowd of spectators. Currently, Dwan is engaged in battle with Patrik Antonius in the first edition of the “durrr” challenge. While their battle has taken place over the course of several months and has yet to be completed, Dwan can also be observed at the highest stakes games that can be found on Full Tilt. In fact, many of the 100 biggest pots in online poker history see “durrr” either involved in the pot or have been played while he was at the table. He does not drift too far away from the high stakes action.

In addition to playing high stakes poker online, Tom Dwan is a regular on the High Stakes Poker television show. When he first arrived on the show, he quickly earned the respect of his peers, even though they all played significantly tighter than he did. Dwan is known for his aggressive play and is thought to be quite loose, yet extremely deceptive and manipulative. Dwan also plays in many of the bigger live poker tournaments, where he has cashed in the World Series of Poker three times, and took fourth in the WPT Foxwoods main event in 2007. Over the course of his short career, Dwan has amassed over $1,000,000 in live tournament winnings.
